Thursday’s Forecast

Winter is on its way out as a full-fledged warming trend begins across the South Plains Thursday. Before the short sleeves can be brought back, there is one more chilly morning to get through. Lubbock will begin Thursday in the upper 30’s to around 40 degrees, with more cloud cover than Wednesday. Winds in the 5-10 mph range will make it feel more like the upper 20’s and lowers 30’s before 10AM. Be sure to grab a jacket!

Even with a continuation of cloud cover, high temperatures will be in the mid and upper 60’s. Winds will be out of the southeast 10-15 mph, with a few gusts nearing 20 mph after 1 PM. Clouds will continue to stream over west Texas through Thursday afternoon. However, other than a few thundershowers north of Lubbock, in the panhandle, no precipitation is expected.

Texas Tech's WRF model shows the showers and a few embedded thunderstorms developign in northern New Mexico, that could affect the Texas panhandle late Thursday evening.
