Texas Tech Hosts Undergraduate Research Conference
Texas Tech University’s Center for Active Learning and Undergraduate Engagement hosts the 2013 Undergraduate Research Conference April 22-25.
The conference features more than 140 participants from a variety of disciplines and research topics. The event is one of the largest undergraduate research conferences in the region and this year includes more than 90 registered reviewers, a number of graduate schools, six distinguished Texas Tech alumni as visiting scholars, and student presenters from as far away as Zamorano University in Honduras.
“The involvement of undergraduates in research and other scholarly endeavors outside the classroom is integral to our mission of a holistic education,” said Michael San Francisco, interim vice president for research. “When undergraduates work side by side with faculty, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, they learn team work, they are involved in the discovery process—often in generating new knowledge—they learn to analyze data and communicate the results and observations to others. Our goal is for all undergraduates to be involved in undergraduate research.”
The conference will be held at several locations across the Texas Tech campus. A welcome networking reception will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday (April 23) in the Animal & Food Science Arena. Presentations and speakers will be held throughout the day on Wednesday (April 24) and Thursday (April 25) in the Student Union Building. The conference concludes with the Undergraduate Research Spring Banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday (April 25) in the Frazier Alumni Pavilion.
