LUBBOCK – Texas Tech University officially announced late Monday night that Tubby Smith will be its next Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball program. According to ESPN.COM, Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt met with the team Monday to tell players of Smith’s hire.
Last week, Smith was fired from Minnesota after 6 seasons with the Golden Gophers, leading them to 3 NCAA Tournaments. He replaces interim coach Chris Walker, and succeeds Billie Gillespie.
Texas Tech has called a news conference for 2 p.m. today, to formally introduce Tubby Smith as the 16th head men’s basketball coach in school history.
