The calm weather of the past few days will take an active turn on Friday afternoon. Moisture levels began increasing across the South Plains Thursday afternoon and will continue to rise on Friday. At the same time, a dry-line boundary will set up across the western South Plains as upper level disturbances move across the area, leading to a possibly stormy evening.

Both of these features, in combination with higher moisture levels and afternoon heating could lead to the development of scattered thunderstorms. The best chance for storms will be between 1PM Friday and 2AM Saturday. Locations along and east of  the interstate 27 corridor stand the best chance of being impacted by showers and thunderstorms.

Some thunderstorms could be strong to severe late Friday. The main severe weather threats throughout this event will be strong winds (>58 mph) and large hail. Though, dangerous lightning and brief heavy rain will likely accompany any strong thunderstorms that do develop.

Keep an eye to the sky!

Have a great Friday,

Cutter Martin
