LUBBOCK – Texas Tech University has officially announced the new Texas Tech president. M. Duane Nellis was named president by the Board of Regents Friday afternoon. Nellis is currently president of the University of Idaho, where he started as president in 2009.
“It is an honor to be selected as sole finalist for the Texas Tech University presidency,” said Nellis. “Texas Tech University is one of the nation’s rapidly-emerging public research universities, and I am grateful to be a part of the university’s exciting and promising future.”
He has served as commissioner for both The Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities, and the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. Of the appointee, Board of Regents member Mickey Long said “Dr. Nellis’ distinguished background and proven ability to lead makes him well suited for this position. we are excited to welcome Dr. Nellis to Texas Tech University and anticipate he will accomplish great things.” He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Montana State University and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Oregon State University in Geography.
