As of 4 PM Friday afternoon, the Storm Prediction Center was considering placing most of the South Plains under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.
The area circled in blue could be placed under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch within the next few hours.
It appears that storms will begin to develop just to the west of Lubbock between 5-7 PM and move northeast through the evening. Then, a more solid line of storm will form later tonight along an approaching cold front and clear the area by 7AM tomorrow. The biggest threats with these thunderstorms will be large hail and dmaging winds, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
