The cold & rainy weather of Wednesday will be replaced with mild temps and very gusty winds on Thursday. Highs will be near 60° on Thursday as strong winds move into the region from the west by early afternoon. Due to the expected intensity of these winds, NWS Lubbock has placed most of the South Plains under a Wind Advisory from 10 AM until 6PM Thursday. Sustained winds of 30-40 mph and gusts exceeding 50 mph are expected through early evening.
These strong winds will cause widespread blowing dust on the Caprock through most of the day. Very low humidity values in combination with strong winds will also lead to dangerous fire weather conditions. Don’t have open flames outdoors tomorrow.
Cold temperatures will move back into the forecast Thursday evening, with Friday beginning in the lower 20’s.
