* Much cooler/Breezy * Increasing clouds * 30 % Rain
A cold front moved across the South Plains early Thursday morning and in its wake we can expect cooler and windy conditions. Winds will be northerly between 15-25 mph through the day; possibly gusting over 30 mph by afternoon. Though, there will be plenty of sunshine, so it should feel warmer by mid-day. Friday morning will be much chillier than what we’ve seen the past few days, though afternoon temps. will begin to moderate back to warmer values. Saturday will be even more mild as moisture returns from the south and a storm system approaches from the west.
This disturbance, in combination with higher moisture levels will cause scattered showers to form by Saturday morning, transitioning into heavier showers and thunderstorms Saturday night; especially east of Lubbock. Following this storm system another cold front will move through the area on Saturday with cooler temperatures and gusty winds in its wake. Then, attention turns to yet another storm system moving out of the desert southwest. This storm may have colder air to work with; leading to a greater possibility of frozen precipitation across west Texas, Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. It appears that precipitations may begin as rain, then changing to snow. Right now, forecast models are still having trouble resolving this approaching storm system and the forecast could change yet again. For now, prepare for wetter weather this weekend, followed by return of Old Man Winter by early next week.
