So far, many areas have received rain overnight. Though, beginning around 3 AM, some of the heavier showers and storms began to mix with ice pellets. In some cases, it fell heavy enough to temporarily accumulate on exposed surfaces. As we head through the rest of the morning, precipitation will continue to form and move west to east across the region. Areas near Clovis, Friona, and Plainview have already reported snow this morning, with significant accumulations already being reported in the panhandle.
While the forecast will likely still be adjusted through the day, it appears that rain will change over to more of a mix or all snow later today in Lubbock. The best chance for wintry weather will begin around 8 AM for northern areas and 11 AM for Lubbock; with areas south of the city not experiencing much in the way of frozen precipitation.
Total accumulations in Lubbock will still likely only be in the dusting to 1/2 in. range. Though, isolated totals between 1-2 inches appear possible by this afternoon.
As you head out the door this morning, remember to slow down no matter what type of precipitation you’re driving in.
