Wednesday will begin chilly, with area temperatures in the upper 20’s northwest of Lubbock, lower 30’s in the city, and just above the freezing mark across the southern areas. Temperatures will then quickly warm after sunrise, with highs in the lower 70’s likely in Lubbock. Wednesday’s afternoon ‘high’ will be nearly 20 above average! Skies will remain mostly clear, with only a few passing high clouds. Though, winds will be gustier than on Tuesday, peaking with gusts out of the southwest near 20 mph by mid-afternoon. Wednesday evening will be seasonable cool with lows dropping into the lower 30’s by Thursday morning under clear and calm conditions. To sum things up: dress in layers! A light jacket will be needed Wednesday morning and night, while many will be able to wear short-sleeves during the afternoon.
Looking Ahead:
Temperature will remain mild through Thursday evening, when a cold front moves through the South Plains. Behind this front, highs will drop into the mid 50’s, with overnight temperatures in the 20’s likely by Friday night. A storm system will then approach the area Saturday; bringing a slight chance of rain to all of west Texas. The storm system will be moving quickly, with rain letting up by early Sunday morning. At this time, rainfall amounts appear to remain light. This will be more of a light nuisance type of rain; certainly not worth cancelling weekend plans over.
