The Lubbock area has been below freezing for nearly 40 hours straight This has caused ice to form on many of the area’s Playa Lakes. Cold conditions will continue through Tuesday, with highs possibly making it to the freezing mark briefly on Tuesday afternoon before plummeting after sunset. Another development in the weather forecast is the possibility of light snow across southern and western portions of the South Plains. While significant accumulation is unlikely, upwards of .5 in is possibly under the heaviest snow showers. Any snow showers should slowly dissipate by early afternoon on Tuesday. However, clouds will stick around through much of the day before clearing late Tuesday. Thankfully, winds will remain light; between 10-15 mph ot of the east. These light winds should keep the wind chill from being too extreme, though some single digit wind chills are possible Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Below is an 11:30 Pm radar snapshot with the red highlighted region depicting a weakening band of snow which should completely dissipate before 2 AM Tuesday. The black circle represents the area most likely to receive snow through early Tuesday afternoon, as more snow develops early Tuesday morning and treks eastward.
Tuesday night will be another cold one, with morning temperatures hovering in the upper teens for those 8 AM Classes!
Bundle up,
