Weather for Thursday 1/10/13

Heavy rain should come to an end by Thursday morning. In its wake, the Lubbock area will experience slowly clearing skies. Because of the increase in sunshine, Thursday’s afternoon high temperature will likely be in the upper 50’s. Westerly winds of 10-15 mph will be present through Thursday night. Due to moist grounds after Wednesday’s rain event, fog will be possible across the entire region. Luckily, temperatures shouldremain above freezing; limiting Thursday night’s freezing fog potential.

What’s ahead?

The next trough of low pressure will pass north of the region, putting west Texas in a favorable position for windy conditions. As of Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service had not issued a ‘High Wind Watch’. Though, some sort of high wind advisory may be needed for Friday, as peak wind gusts could top 50 mph.

A strong arctic cold front will plow through the Lubbock area late Friday or Saturday. Besides much colder temperatures; lift behind this front in combination with a passing upper level disturbance could yield light snow for West Texas Saturday evening.
