TGIF,
Your Friday morning temperatures will be between 36 and 39 degrees. Because of decent amounts of sunshine and dry southwesterly winds; Friday’s high temperatures will rocket into the lower 60’s! Speaking of the wind, the National Weather Service in Lubbock has placed almost all of the South Plains under a ‘High Wind Watch’, going into effect Friday morning. This watch will likely be upgraded to a ‘High Wind Warning’ Friday morning. Sustained winds of 15- 25 mph are likely; increasing to 30-40 mph with gusts topping 50 mph by early Friday afternoon. Winds will then decrease Friday evening. Despite recent rains, patchy areas of blowing dust are expected Friday afternoon. Also, make sure to bring in any loose items which could be blown away or damaged by strong winds. Objects lofted by strong winds can easily cause damage to surrounding structures.
Friday night temperatures will be cooler, with Saturday morning lows in the lower 20’s behind a cold front. Another, even stronger cold front will move through the South Plains on Saturday. This front will be followed by even colder temperatures and a chance for snow flurries Saturday evening.
