Finally, a cool front has moved through the South Plains;ending our streak of record high temperatures. However, even behind this cool front, temperatures appear to stay a few degrees above average.Temperature will continue to fall through the rest of this evening, with low temperatures on Tuesday morning expected to be near freezing, or around 33°. Skies will be mostly clear, with winds averaging between 10-15 mph.
After a cool morning, temperatures should warm to an afternoon high in the lower 60’s in town. Skies will be partly cloudy with winds picking back up into the 15-25 mph range by mid-morning; though a few gusts could reach 30 mph by late afternoon.
Looking Ahead:
Another cool front will move through the area sometime Thursday evening or Friday but the cool down behind this front won’t be anything too cold…just yet. However, a much stronger cold front appears to move into the South Plains on Sunday evening or Monday;depending on which forecast model is being looked at. While there is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the late weekend/ early next week forecast, it appears that much colder temperatures are in store. How cold? High temperatures could easily be knocked down into the 40’s, with overnight lows in the teens and 20’s. However, temperatures could be even cooler than this. Some forecast models even show a storm system causing precipitation throughout the area beginning Monday, December 10th.
