Weather for Monday, 12/3/12

Good Morning,

Today is essentially a continuation of the weather we’ve experienced for the past few days. While it’ll be a close call, forecasters do not expect Lubbock to break a record high today. However, temperatures will still be nearly 20° above average; with an expected high near 80° in Lubbock. Skies will be mostly sunny throughout the day, with westerly winds possibly gusting over 30 mph by this afternoon. A small change to this persistent weather pattern is expected this evening when a weak cold front will push through the South Plains. Due to this cooler air-mass invading the area overnight, temperatures will fall to near freezing tonight in Lubbock with cooler afternoon highs in the lower 60’s expected through Tuesday.

A pattern change is becoming a slightly more realistic probability by late this coming weekend. Again, it must be stressed that it is far too soon to speculate on what specific impacts the South Plains will feel. Yet, it is becoming clear that the days to watch will be between 12-9 & 12-11. Stay tuned.

Have a good Monday,

Cutter Martin (KTXT Weather)
