It’s Official, Lubbock recorded it’s first snowfall of the season on Sunday Night!
While the snow moved through quickly, snowfall rates were actually quite intense;probably near an inch per hour. Though, the short duration of the event only allowed for total snowfall accumulations between 1/2 an inch to 1 inch across the area. However, these heavy snowfall rates, combined with wind gusts over 30 mph yielded very low visibility during the time of snowfall.
Temperatures will be very cold on Monday morning, likely in the mid to upper teens in Lubbock. This means that any snow melt will likely re-freeze overnight and could make for an icy morning commute. Roadways, driveways, outdoor staircases, and any other concrete/metal objects will all likely have a light coating of snow and ice. However, Monday will be a sunny day with temperatures warming towards 40° by mid-afternoon. This should be just warm enough to melt most of the snow and ice, making for a much safer afternoon commute.
Remember to drive safely when leaving for work or school in the morning, being sure to leave adequate space for breaking between you and the driver in front of you. Also, with lows in the teens and low 20’s the next few nights; be sure to protect pipes, plants, pets, and people during these cold times. If you have any pictures of the snow, post them on the KTXT Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/TheRaider881?fref=ts , or the twitter page @TheRaider881
Have a safe Monday morning,
