High Wind Update

Early Wednesday warning, the National Weather Service issued a ‘Dust Storm Warning’ for areas from Lubbock westward, with a ‘Blowing Dust Advisory’ being put into place for eastern areas. The warning has been issued because of the amount of the blowing dust that will be present later today. In fact, visibility .25 mile or less is likely in scattered locations across the warned area by 11 AM. Winds still appear to peak sustained between 35-45 mph; with gusts up to 70 mph possible. Remember, today is not a good day to travel and that it would be best to rearrange travel plans if at all possible. Also, secure any loose items that could blow away before the wind starts by mid-morning; such as trampolines, small children’s playgrounds, flower pots etc. Severe winds should begin to wind down after sunset, with much calmer conditions expected by 10 PM.
