Good Afternoon,
Lubbock has so far reached a Friday afternoon high near 60° today, which is quite amazing considering this morning’s low temperature was a very cold 19° on Tech campus. Fortunately, the warming trend will continue tonight; with temperatures falling into the mid 20’s by day-break Saturday. Saturday afternoon will be even warmer than today, likely topping out near the 70° mark by 4 PM. Skies will remain mostly clear through Saturday night, with winds in the 10-20 mph range.
Looking Ahead:
The weather pattern across the United States looks undergo a very cold and unsettled shift beginning on Christmas Eve in West Texas. A strong cold front will impact the South Plains by the Christmas Eve night, significantly dropping temperatures across the area. While the exact timing and strength of this incoming cold front is still up for debate, it appear’s afternoon highs will be in the thirties on Christmas day; with lows possibly falling into the lower teens overnight. Winds will be quite strong behind this front as well, possibly gusting near 40 mph through Christmas day. These strong winds will make it feel even colder outside. At the same time, a strong low pressure system will be moving across the Southern Plains, providing some with a white ‘Day after Christmas’! The exact track and strength of this storm system is crucial when determining who gets snow and how much snow will fall. As of now, it appears the best chances for wintry precipitation will be in areas of Texas;east of interstate 35 and north of interstate 20, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and points north and eastward. However, a lot can change between now and Christmas Eve, check back for later updates.
