8:00 AM Monday Weather Update

As of 8:00 AM, Tech Campus is sitting at 14°, the airport is sitting at 13°, and Reese Center has fallen to 12° . This means that any moisture which was on area roadways overnight has likely frozen, making travel hazardous.

Tips for icy commuting:

*Leave extra room between you and the driver in front of you. This allows you to break at a slower rate and over longer distance; making you less likely to skid.

*When braking, pump your brakes. Do not slam on your brakes! Ease on and off your brakes gradually, until you stop or slow to your desired speed.

* If you start sliding: Immediately take your foot off of the accelerator;without over-compensating,slowly steer your car in the direction that your rear-end is moving. In this instance, your car could skid or fish-tail in the opposite direction. However, just stay calm and repeat the process until your car stops or the skid is corrected.

Temperatures will hopefully warm above freezing around the noon hour, under full sunshine. By 1PM most of the snow and ice should be gone off of area roadways. However, still use caution when approaching areas of the road which appear to be wet, as it could be ‘black-ice’.
