Weather for Thursday 11/29/12

Thursday will mark the beginning of a long stretch of very warm days. In fact, by this weekend high temperatures will be over 20° above average. Thursday morning will start out with temperatures around  40°;perhaps slightly warmer if clouds stick around overnight. However, clouds will depart the area by mid-morning leaving behind mostly sunny skies. These clear skies, combined with a warm southwesterly flow will lead to highs topping out in the lower 70’s by mid-afternoon. Winds won’t be too bad either, only averaging between 5-10 mph. All in all, it’s going to be a great late Fall day across the South Plains. These pleasant conditions will continue into this weekend, so expect mild and dry conditions for Saturday night’s 54th annual ‘Carol of Lights’  on Tech Campus.

However, these days appear to be numbered. Forecast models continue to show a pattern change as we head into December, with ‘Old Man Winter’ potentially making an appearance by the second week of December. Though, forecasters are still very uncertain about this upcoming pattern change and any specific dates or conditions discussed must be taken lightly until we get closer to this evolving event.

Happy Thursday,

Cutter Martin (KTXT Weather)
