Weather for Thursday 11/15/12

Good Morning,

Thursday morning temperatures will likely be cool, yet again. A light freeze is expected across the northwestern half of the South Plains (temperatures at or below freezing, but above 27° for 1-3 hours in duration). Afternoon temperatures should warm steadily, likely into the middle 60’s for Lubbock. Thursday night will be seasonably cool with an expected low of 35° on tech campus; as opposed to the average low of 36°. Skies will be mostly clear throughout the period, with light southerly winds (10-15mph).

As mentioned earlier, forecast models are still hinting at a storm system moving into the southwestern United Sates, and eventually Texas. While confidence in this weather pattern is not high enough to fully jump on any one scenario, it is becoming clear that Texas may receive some beneficial rainfall, as well as some severe weather, especially for areas east of Lubbock and on into east Texas. If you’re heading home for Thanksgiving next Sunday-Wednesday, be sure to keep this in mind. As forecast models converge on a solution, impacts from this storm system will become more clear. Stay tuned to KTXT weather, the National Weather Service, and other media outlets for more information.
