Weather for Saturday 11/17/12

After a mostly sunny Friday afternoon, you may have noticed a return of the clouds just prior to sunset. These clouds will linger, and perhaps thicken even further through the day today. The combination of a cool air mass and thick cloud cover should keep high temperatures cool, with an anticipated high of 60°. By tonight, an approaching weak upper level disturbance, in associated with some tropical moisture in the middle levels of the atmosphere could produce some sprinkles or light rain showers across the South Plains. The best chance for precipitation should hold off until after 11Pm or so, with areas south of Lubbock having the best chance of seeing this rain.

As I’ve alluded to the past few days, a series of weather “disturbances” will move towards west Texas, from the southwest. These disturbances all have the chance to produce occasional rounds of showers and a few thunderstorm beginning Sunday evening, with another stronger disturbance likely to impact West-central Texas by Thanksgiving day. Rainfall amounts won’t be too significant with any of these disturbances, but they do have the chance to produce periods of light rain through the coming weekend and into Thanksgiving week.

Beyond Thanksgiving, our weather may take a more interesting turn toward cooler, more unsettled conditions. Perhaps just in time for Carol of Light?

We will see…
